Welcome to the home of the Mad Skittles!

Mad Skittles play like a Bunch of Girls!

....and they should be darn proud of that!

Mad Skittles GU14 team have played a great season thus far and it has been great to be part of what they have accomplished in such a short period. In the first game of the season, they came out a little flat and lost a close game to the Pirates 3-2. Since then, they've rolled up four wins and two ties in those next six contests! Not too shabby if you ask me. If you're a "bragger" like me, then you can say that the team is undefeated in the last 6 games.

This past weekend, the team came out a little flat in the first half settling for a 1 to 1 tie at halftime. Very similar to the way they did in the first game against the Pirates. However, they didn't play the second half like the first and wound up putting 4 more goals into the back of the net. Maybe it was just good coaching and adjustments at halftime..... NAH!!!!!  Give all credit to the girls for playing a great second half of soccer. They really pulled it together.

Great game all around to everyone!

Other facts....
  • We're in Second Place with two games to go. If we want a shot at 1st place, we need to play well against the HER-icanes in order to play Fire-N-Ice in the last game of the season. That should be one heck of a match and the best way to close out the regular season.
  • We have given up the least amount of goals this season in our division! Less than 1 1/2 goals per game.
  • We have 3 shutouts in 7 games!
  • Also, we've scored the most this season but we have to be careful on how that is perceived. I don't think we've run the score up on anyone at all. Just consistent offense each weekend. That's a hair over 3 goals a game for anyone playing with averages.
  • We're moving the ball around very very well! Woot! Coaches are very happy with that!

Scrimmage Game Hi-lites

Scrimmage Game on August 22, 2009

Mad Skittles played two - twenty minute games against a mix of players from the Pirates U14 and U16 teams. The girls played very well for their first time out of the gates against another team while also playing on a full sized field. Mad Skittles was the only team to score a goal during the two scrimmages by Emily Andersen. Coach Thom completely missed the goal so I will have to live vicariously through the description of other parents and players...and I'm sure through a proud Coach Andersen.

In the second scrimmage, we improved tremendously with our passing, communication and team work. Kudos to team for their performance!
Things to work on this week from coach's observation:
  • Don't turn your back when someone is about to shoot. Sometimes they fake the shot and dribble around you.
  • Defense - Stay between your player and the goal.
  • Everyone - Look at your spacing on the field and know your position. For Example: If you are playing in a midfield position, you shouldn't be behind the defender. Same goes for Defense and Offense.
  • Defense
    • #1 - Don't let them get the ball
    • #2 - Don't let them turn if they get the ball
    • #3 - Don't let them beat you
  • Talk More!
  • Have fun!

Volunteering at Interfaith Community Services
The Mad Skittles Soccer Team kicked off the season by volunteering at the Interfaith Community Service Center preparing and serving food to people from our area that needed a helping hand.

The team had to be there by 5:30 to start working and I'll have to admit, it was dark and generally too early for one of the coaches. I was very happy to see that we had at least half the team there with Moms, Dads, and Brother and Sisters! Thanks Team!
